Lighthearted, comical and satirical

Through centuries of British oppression, Irish people could still find a way to laugh at themselves.  Comic and satirical lyrics were invariably included in the repertoire of the travelling bard.  Humor, ridicule and absurdities provided light relief from the cares of the day. Sex, politics, drink, religion, love, animals, weather and sport were fair game for lyrical topics. Looking at the list below, I'm beginning to wonder if there's nothing but levity in us Irish at all !
