Vales of Traderee

Lyrics

Kind friends, the grief I cannot tell
That this sad parting had to be
For I’ve been with you in your homes
Round the lovely vales of Traderee

The rugged rocks, I do admire
Whose rugged heights, I climbed to see
And all around me did enquire
If I loved the vale around Traderee

Oh, I love it’s hill and valleys fair
By Shannon’s breezes ever fanned
And still there’s something charming there
That binds me fast to that dear old land

The rugged rocks, I do admire
Whose rugged heights, I climbed to see
And all around me did enquire
If I loved the vale around Traderee

Notes

The place where the town of Shannon is today was formerly known as Rinanna. Prior to that, it was Traderee in the Barony of Bunratty. It encompassed the parishes of Drumgile, Tullyvaraga and Clonloughlin.
